A/T Transmission will not shift into OD 700 1989

1989, 745GL Wagon - Transmission stopped shifting into OD. I have read all the postings related to this issue, but I still have one question. Before I start trouble shooting, Does the fact that the OD Switch (on the gear shift) appears to be working, and even activates the OD light in the dash mean anything? Does it eliminate any possibilities? I would think that, a a minimum, I can assume that the switch is working correctly. Have I narrowed down the possibilities to the Relay and OD Selenoid?
