enamel or clear coat or??? 120-130

I am finally going to get my 68 wagon painted ( original green). I just need some basic info on paint please. The clear coat was peeling, and I think maybe I would like the older style of paint, the kind you find on tdash panel etc. To me this looks like enamel. But what do I the "Tremclad Kid" know? Anyhow, i want something shiny but subdued, and I don't want to have to deal with peeling clearcoat in a few years. Any tips?
