DON'T GET A SALVAGE TITLE you will be handcuffed by it forever.
The title companies do a very good service for those who cannot get ahold of the previous TITLED owner. I have used them twice and both experiences were very satisfactory. I am currently attempting the DMV way here in Nevada but only because I know someone who works for DMV. Trying to do it yourself is a major pain in the a** until you have done it a few times and know all the wrinkles (and there are a lot of wrinkles!).
Of course my friend is pretty slow so the $200 for the service is looking pretty favorable about now!
