740 turbo stumbling upon acceleration 700 1998

6 - 8 MONTH OLD PROBLEM
92 740 Turbo Wagon NO rust, 240k
Just finished replacing front struts, bushings, track arms, inner tie rods. Rear Shocks. Also have completed a full tune up. Front end great . Drives and Runs great....but.....

First the car was not running stalling cutting out etc.... My mechanic replaced the Mass Air Flow Sensor (put in a used one $)and the problem was corrected.

After some time the engine started to stumble upon acceleration from stop or if slowed down and accelerating again it would stumble. In both cases “feathering” the petal would do the trick and it would run ok.
Gas Mileage dropped from 23- 24 to 18 - 20
My mechanic who I fully trust replaced (no codes except for the oxy sensor were present)
1 Temperature sensor, 2 Oxy sensor, 3. fuel pump NO improvement

After some thought he checked the connection from the computer “the harness” to the motor and when he fiddled with some of the pin connections the problem was MUCH improved. But after a day or so the problem got worse slowly until it was back to running badly.

So I decided to try the DEALER near by. They looked it over and found codes and replace
1. the Mass Air Flow Sensor, 2. Cleaned the Throttle Body, 3. Replaced the Turbo Valve.
The problem was NO better and now the car stalls very easily. My Mileage did improve when driving only hiway miles. Once I go start and stop the milege drops back to 18 MPG.

I take the car back to my mechanic.
He gets it to stop stalling by adjusting the throttle position switch and again plays with the connections to the computer. It is running better not stumbling, but is sucking gas.

I’m hoping that someone has had simular problem and has a solution.
I’ve been looking on this site for the past 4 months, (recently bought a 2000 v70) and have found alot of helpfull info.
