Just got back from a 4000 mile round trip to Montana in my 95' 960.
Before I left I would smell gas occationally while idling. Never thought much of it.
While in Montana the gas smell got stronger and I could feel the car miss while idling. This got progressively worse.
I was smelling around the engine for the source while idling and found it. There was some gas bubbling out of the intake manifold rubber sleeve at the number 1 cylinder. A pool of gas was sitting in the anti-knock sensor well (I think thats what it is) just down stream of the sleeve.
The missing started to happen upon acceleration the next day...not just at idle. That's when I decided 12 days of camping was enough and started to head home.
After the straight 16 hr. burn out run back to K.C. the car ran progressively better but I doubt that it fixed itself.
1) Why would gas be squirting out of the intake manifold rubber sleeve? Isn't this thing under vacuum?
2) I'm assuming this leak is related to the cylinder mis-fire...isn't it?
3) Looks like I need a special hose clamp tool. Is it a special volvo tool or can I buy a different style hose clamp and be done with it?
4) Since I'll be doing a fair amount of dis-assembly is it worth replacing or fixing anything else? (already cleaned the flame trap) Should I take off the entire assembly and buy new sleeves or can I assume the sleeve is probably alright and the clamp just came loose?
5) Is this dangerous or can I put it off for a few days so I can resume my relationship with my golf clubs?
thx
