O2 sensor..... 700

I cranked my car up and unplugged the oxygen sensor, just to see if it could be the cause of my rough running car. I unplugged it and the car ran exactly as it did before I unplugged it. Should it have? Or should it have changed dramatically? I also took the fuel return line off of the fuel pressure regulator, put it in a clear container and cranked the car. There was a pretty good stream of fuel trying to return to the tank, but when I unplugged the vaccum line going from the FPR to the intake manifold, there was no change in the amount of fuel trying to return. Should there have been a noticeable change? Just trying to trace down a few of the many problems I'm having with my car.
