Volvo 940GL Cooling System 900 1992

Hello. I have looked at the FAQs but would still like to bring something up for the members to comment on.

Last year I had a cooling system problem that resulted in a lean running condition which in turn led to failing emissions very badly. The radiator was replaced and the intake was cleaned out and when tested cold, the car passed smog fine.

So far this year it has gotten hot but I still do not fear the electric fan coming on, I tested the thermoswitch by the FAQs by laying a screwdriver across the leads and it DOES pop on. A new one is coming from FCP Groton, a great source of Volvo parts at reasonable prices.

What bothers me more, and this has been the case since last year, is that at no time does the temperature gauge on the dash EVER show it getting hotter than mid point, ie, the needle going straight up. The sender and gauge ARE working, because it comes from cold, rest position and will go over to mid point.

Does this sound normal? The last thing I want is a cooling system failure after all that has been done. Thanks a lot for any help.
