flexible fuel line 200 1988

changed out the fuel filter in my '88 245 the other day and now i hear the main pump running when i never could before. have verified that the in-tank pump is working. (i can hear it through a funnel, making a slight buzzing sound that stops when i pull the fuse.)

when i wrestled the old filter off, i ripped the flex line between the filter and the main pump. replaced it with a bit of spare fuel hose i had, but the inner diameter is a little larger than the original flex hose. could this result in the noisy pump? is the pump running harder to push more fuel through that larger opening?
