steering box 1800 1973

Have you tried adjusting it?
It is possible to repair it but if the gears are shot, you will need to
either put up with it or get another box. They are pretty durable and
the guys who sell used parts (See your Rolling Mag ad section) probably
can help you. I got a repair kit for my 122 box for about $105 from a
company in Holland, but have not done the job yet. The kit included bearings
and seals.
