Flex plate replacement advice (ring gear bad teeth) 700 1986

I have a bad section of teeth (or a tooth) on my ring gear and bought a new flex plate (with ring gear) for $35.00 off ebay.

Plan on marking original before removing to get proper align when installing new one, figure I have to remove tranny cross brace and lower tranny with my floor jack and wood platform (or rent a transmission jack). Of course while at it will replace rear seal and transmission seals.

I have replaced tranny in my bmw (ZF) which had an almost impossible top bolt to get to. Should I expect the same? With 230,000 miles on transmission, are there any visual checks on transmission that can be done to determine if a swap should be done?

Lastly, should I just let an experienced shop do it? I'm will to give up a Saturday to do it myself.
