Could it be my starter or the belts? 200 1990

Hi all,

This morning I fired up the 240 and there was this horrrible noise...like a piglet squeling...coming from under the hood. It doean't go away with engine rpm either. I noticed it wasn't coming from the front of the engine, but more towards the tranny bell housing. So...while the engine is running, I turned the ignition on again...so the starter engages...and let it go immediately. The sound disappeared...so I thought. Okay, it wasn't loud, but it was still there...it's more prominent when the engine's under load or at higher rpms. I replaced my accessory belts and t-belt in April, so I am not really sure if it is the belts. What do you think?

Thanks,
Raj
