940 vs. 960 wagons

Julie,

My opinion is to stick with the 940, essentially same car, lot's simpler than the 960. Early 960 engines were trouble prone. Normally aspirated 940 is pretty bulletproof, but slow, 940 turbo faster, but still reliable. These cars are not new anymore, so have a mechanic or someone knowledgeable check it out for you. You want service records. Good luck.
