Don't laugh. Where is the oil filter? 900 1996

I just bought my fifth Volvo wagon, a 96 960. I wanted to change the oil and put in full synthetic. I bring home the oil and filter, get under the car, drain the oil, but where is the filter? I've always changed the oil on all my vehicles. I've looked on both sides of the engine from above and below. Do I need to remove an "under" pan to reveal the filter? Thanks.
