I'm planning to tackle the ball valve replacement in my 940 AW71L
transmission in the near future (hard shifting from 1-2). I have the manual
(thanks chuck!!). Looking through the book I see there is a special tool
needed to hold the accumulator pistons in place to stop them falling on the
ground. Has anyone on the BB done this job before? Could I improvise
something out of some flat steel? What I was thinking of doing was cutting
out a piece about 4 or 5 inches long and about 2 or 3 inches wide. Then
drill a couple of holes in it (lining them up with the holes for the
transmission oil pan. Then I would use the pan bolts to hold the plate in
place to hold the pistons. I can't see the underside of the tool in the
picture so I don't know if there is something on the other side? What did
you guys/girls do when you did this job? Sounds like a lot of work, I know,
but I would prefer to do this job myself. At least if I stuff up I don't
have to point the finger of blame at anyone but myself!
I've got the ball from Volvo and now I need to get the valve body gaskets.
Is there anything else I should do while I'm in there? I'm having trouble
with the lock up function for the torque converter. I think this is a
problem with a valve too so I'll check that out.
Does anyone have any other suggestions/input?
Any advice is much appreciated as always.
