Alternators 700 1988

I have a 1988 740 Gle non turbo
The alternator died and I have one off of a 1985 740 gle non turbo. There is a little difference between the two on the back side. My Question is can I just put the one from the 85 on or do I need to take the parts off the back of the one I took off and swap them around?
