'87 740 GLE engine type? 700 1990

First I'd like to thank Kane and Aye Roll for helping me with my last question. I don't know the board etiquette for thank you's. I saw their posts a couple days later and didn't know if I should bump the thread to the top.

I'm thinking about buying a cheap but running '87 744GLE. The wife has taken over our '90 744T. I plan on driving the gle but I also think at worst it would be a good parts car for my turbo? I was thinking it had the same engine and transmission as my 90 744T. I've read the gle's have different engines (but maybe not in '87).

For the '87 GLE:
The engine code from the VIN is 88 which my 1990-1993 chilton's manual says it's a B230F (LH 2.4). The carfax report lists the engine as: 2.3L L4 FI SOHC.

For my '90 Turbo:
The engine code from the VIN is 87 B230F-Turbocharged. The carfax report engine type is: 2.3L L4 TURBO FI SOHC.

Are these the same engines? The '87 GLE I might get is running. 177k miles. I'm looking to get it for $400 or so. I've only seen pictures as of yet. Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you
