AC repair/conversion question 200 1992

I have a 92 240 needing a boost of feon. The air condition is only slightly cool. Not enough to make a difference in the interior on a hot day. I am wanting to convert to 134R and remember reading in the past that there is a conversion kit from the dealer that is recommended. I also remember someone writing that the 1990 and up 240's don't need the conversion kit. Is this true and if not what all is necessary for the conversion so I don't get screwed by whoever does the work? Should I go to the dealer or a reputable air conditioner specialist?

thanks
tim
