Help, struck oil! 200

Hey all,
Up until now, the 1988 DL Wagon leaves its marks on the driveway with no major loss of oil. The other day the light comes on and I smell burning oil and open the hood and see oil everywhere. On the passenger side inside fender, the oil filter covered in brown glaze, etc. Steam cleaned and it looked real nice, but after a short drive, oil all over again. Looks like most of it is over the water pump housing, thermostat area, where the big waterhose connects? Is that head gasket or what? I cannot pinpoint the source of the leak.
Carl
