Ignition points / ignition problems 140-160 1974

Jim - that's good stuff. I will switch the wiring to the coil and also test it like you describe. If it works OK, I'll install new points. Let me re-iterate the engine ran fine last week and I haven't done anything else with the ignition. I did check the timing last week as well and at idle it's dead on at what the manual says, which I believe was 8 degrees BTDC. Whether this is the best for an old tired engine, I don't know.
