steering column rubbing firewall 120-130

looks like my steering column may have been rubbing on the firewall opening enough to elongate the opening into an olblong, although the column seems to have no wear on it

it does however band against the wall when going over bumps

I have loosened the nuts that hold the top of the steering to the dash and tried moving it over and putting in a new coupling in the shaft but it still seems to bend toward the passenger side

do I need to push all the section together to make it shorter perhaps?
