Catastrophic brake failure- Help please 200

Hello Volvo fans
Something really weird happened tonight. After some particularly hard driving (one hour in stop-n-go traffic), the brakes on my '89 245 quit without warning  (no warning lights, no nothin'). The brake pedal went all the way down to the floor and I totally lost braking power. I was almost at my destination, and used the e-brake the rest of the way (luckily).

After the car sat for a couple of hours, and when I got back in, the brakes returned to normal, and I drove home (cautiously) with no problems.
I checked the brake fluid reservoir (full) and surrounding areas for leaks and found none. Can anybody give me an idea of what to do to fix this problem? Maybe I just need a bleed?

Thanks,
Bill Boshnick
