engine died 700

Firstly, carefully check all ignition system leads, especially the HT lead which connects under the dist. cap. When no-start next happens, observe the tach whilst cranking - needle should jump. If dead, you have an ignition system problem, either the crank sensor for an 89 turbo or hall sensor for pre-89, or possibly the power stage - they both fail intermittently.

If tach moves, listen for fuel pump after releasing key - should hum for a second. If not, suspect the fuel pump relay (common problem). If pump hums, check the radio suppression relay (under the hood) which powers the injectors.

You should hear the injectors clicking whilst cranking (get someone else to crank while you listen under the hood). After that, consult the FAQ.

And, yes, it can die that fast!

Regards.
