M46 Car rolls back a bit when parked in gear - clutch or trannmission problem? 700 1991

Howdy, I have a 740 turbo wagon with the M46 manual transmission, which I have heard is a rare configuration, so I'm already sweating at the thought of having to find used transmission parts.

Here's what happens:

If I park the car on an uphill slope (even mild) and leave it in 1st gear, as I am walking away from it (about 15-30 sec after turning off the engine) it rolls back about 6" - 1 foot and then stops. It doesn't roll any further after this.

It also often grinds when shifting into reverse, which I hear is common, but much less if I shift into 1st gear immediately before.

Any comments about what may be happening here (worn out clutch plate?) and what action I should take?

Thanks.
