Cruising Spd for 122 120-130

Allow a relatively new Volvo owner to ask a really dumb question. I have a '68 122S; 4 spd w/ OD. The OD has been replaced and is working perfectly. However, even in OD, when I am crusing at 60 mph, the engine sounds like it is wound up as tight as it wants to be. At 65 mph, it sounds like it simply does not want to take any additional rpm. The car does not have a tach and I have not tried putting atemporary one it. However, I suspect this is tied to the gearing of the rear-end ,etc and is simply a trait of the car. Or, am I just afraid to push it? I don't want to drive it 100mph, but I do want to know its capabilities. Any input?
