Air flaps and flame traps 900

The recent thread on airbox air flaps prompted me to finally take a look at the flap on my trusty 87 745. I've already bypassed the flap on my 96 965. As with the 965, the flap on the 745 was in the hot air position, and once again I wonder how long it's been that way. Personal experience suggests none of these work after a few years, and that every single one of them should be considered suspect.

As for flame traps, can someone explain exactly how to remove it on the 960? I've looked at the FAQ, and maybe I'm a dullard but it's not clear to me.
As ever, thanks
Richard
