Yes the engine can die that quick when a sensor or ground is corroded. My 740 died much the same why in the middle of I80. I just passed a truck and stopped in bumper to bumper traffic. The engine died and that was it! Here the sensor that is located on the coolant tank was badly corroded inside and it happend to be raining that day. The wires to it simply stopped passing a signal. I touched the wires to it and they fell off the bottom of the plug. So my advice for you would be make sure there is no spark by checking the wire out of the coil if you have nothing check the power wires to the coil. If the coil is not getting power to it, its probably a sensor like the hall sensor. If it died that quickly it's a sensor or wire contact nothing really mechanical. If you are not getting spark don't bother checking the full pump until you get spark back! Check the spark by putting a screw driver in the distributor end of the wire coming from your coil. Set it close to the fender where you can see it and still turn the key to start it. If you see spark you've got spark! Then move on to the full pump.
