Confused.....Cooling system issue.....posibly heater core. 700

Hi everyone,

I asked some heater core questions a week or so ago and got lots of great responses. I've had the faint smell of coolant, off and on, for quite some time (maybe almost 2 years). I only smell it sometimes and the coolant level isn't dropping noticeably. The last time I smelled the coolant was with my mechanic in the car on a dark (moist) day close to two weeks ago. The weather has been mostly dry and sunny since and I haven't smelled coolant. Today it's raining and once again I noticed the coolant smell while driving the car.....What gives?!? At one point today it was quite noticeable if I turned the fan on and smelled close to the center dash vent. I have yet to do any heater core tests, but I'll certianly be checking into that later this week comming when I have some time. I don't understand why this smell only seems to be apparent on moist days....The rad is original and I'm planning on replacing it within the next month or so. I have the new cooling hoses, but don't have the money for a new rad right now. Can you guys give any insight? I don't understand why I only seem to have a problem on moist days......Thanks in advance for any help!
