245 rear track/axleshaft questions 200

Hi

I would like to increase track width on my 1989 245. Cause I dislike a little bit the plates (adaptors) which are used for an operation like this I figured out another way to do that (theoretically). So here comes the question...could I replace the 245 axleshaft with one out of a 945? With the longer axleshaft of the 940 I would increase track width about 5 cm per side without the adaptors...but only if this theoretic idea is realizeable.

Thanks for any input and sorry if the idea is nonsense ;-)

Take care

MP
