Volvo 940 AC compressor 900 1994

I have a 1994 940, non turbo, and my ac compressor is not working properly. when i turn on the ac, the compressor spins for a bit and then turns off, then turns back on, off and on. I want to know if it might only be the clutch i have to replace, or would it be better to just replace the whole compressor. does anyone know any shops near Manhattan that might be able to do this job for me. let me know, any help would be appreciated. thanks again
