How to access speed sensor on differential (1992 960) 900 1992

I recently bought a 960 that has a glitchy speedometer. I've found the speed sensor on the differential and was able to barely see it to remove the plug to clean the terminals. Does anyone know how to remove the sensor without removing the rear differential carrier assembly. Can it be accessed from the access panel in the trunk? I've already removed the instrument cluster and done all the checks up there and the signal seems to be intermittent. The speedometer seems to work OK after the car warms up, but by then the transmission up arrow is flashing and it keeps flashing until I reset the code (2-3-2). It seems like it should quit flashing after the speedometer starts getting a signal, but it doesn't. I've read through the archives and it seems speedometer problems are common. I love the car otherwise and hope this helpful group can give me some ideas on how to get this sensor out.

Thanks in advance,

Ben
