I think that I ruined my Power steering Pump S90-V90 1998

Hi gang,

Haven't posted in a while. I'm always meticulous about fluids and lubrication. Thinking that I was doing a "good thing", I evacuated old fluid from my PS reservoir and replaced it with the new Valvoline synthetic PS fluid in the gold bottle. I never thought to check the fluid specs because...synthetic is always OK.....right.... and I'd done it on other cars with no ill effects. Anyway, the PS pump is now whining really loud. Maybe it was just a coincidence, and maybe I killed it. The bottom line is that I need to replace it, so I want to know what fluid I'll need and whether I can get something that meets the Volvo spec that won't come from a Volvo dealer that will likely overcharge me for a lesser quality product.

Also, not having messed w/ PS much at all, how do I drain the system below the new pump so that the replacement pump has all brand new fluid....and not a mixture of old and new? You assistance will be much appreciated.

BTW....Erie Vo-VO has used PS Pumps for under $60.
