no power to fuel pump

I finally got to the in tank fuel pump on my 95 940. It looks like there is no power getting to it. Using a grounded test light none of the wires (4 wires, 1 pink, 1 black and 2 striped) had any power going through them. However, I jiggled the wires leading into the tank by mistake and voila the pump turned on and the car ran. That process isn't good enough for driving around so I went back and jiggled the wires trying to find a lose connection but couldn't - while jiggling the wires the fuel pump stopped working again and wouldn't restart with all the jiggling and cursong I could muster. Is there a connection inside the tank to the pump? Are there other connections that may be loose? Any ideas??

I'll check to see how the wires work on our operational 95 940 and put some dielectric grease on the ICU wires - see where that gets me.
