Is there a temperature in A/C compressor?? 900

'96 960

I will try to make this short, my A/C compressor has been cutting out when ambient temps are around 90+ and the engine is brought to around 4000 RPM. The A/C seems to run fine if not over reved. The temp is around 40 deg. best case. I took the car to the dealer to diag. and they told me the compressor has a high temp. switch (which is not replaceable) and I need a new compressor and other recommended/related parts for a grand total of ~$1100. I spoke w/ Swed. Eng. tech and he had never heard of a temp. switch in the comp. I have a hard time understanding why a temp. switch in the comp. would not be a changeable item. The question is, is there a temp. switch at all? Could the problem be from a high pressure switch?

Any/all replies will be greatly appreciated.
