Fuel problems persist, new 240...but.....some progress, I think. 200

Thanks again to all those who posted a message attempting to assist in this problem so far. As one may remember, I just recently purchased an '87 240 w/ 151K. All original, Volvo serviced, nice shape.

Any who, the previous owner states that he ran the car out of fuel and believes that the "fuel pump" is now inoperable due to his repeated attempts to crank the car after he put a couple of gallons of fuel in the car. He claims that when a fuel hose is attached to the vacumm side of the intake manifold, the car runs. I asked that he not do this as I really didn't like the idea of this proceedure and figured that I'd find the problem and fix it myself.

Thinking that the in-tank pump was bad, I removed it this morning and took it inside the house. I submerged it in water and applied 12V's to the black wire and grounded the unit itself which started a fairly steady flow of water from the submerged pump. So it seems, the in-tank pump is ok, for all intents and purposes.

Still, the fuel pump relay (white electrical box under dash) definately buzzes when the key is on. I've swapped a couple of relays from my other cars to see if this was the problem and they too buzz pretty loudly. None of my other 240's do this with any relays.

Still, the car does not run and I've come to wonder if I now have a main pump problem, a wiring problem of some kind, or, perhaps an ECU issue.

I cant' thank those who have helped me out so far, enough. THANKS! (especially Bruce Young).

Anyone have the buzzing fuel pump relay syndrome?

Thanks again,

Sincerely,

JBeechraft
