Follow the same path as the original wiring, including bends, and you'll be fine. The bends are there to ensure slack. I had to rewire the doors to my wife's MB 300TE wagon after 250 k miles, and I used the best wire RadioShack had to offer and used crimp splices. They are available everywhere and if you use good technique, the connections will last the life of the car. I used to solder everything, but the crimp connectors are easier and work just as well.

If you haven't broken any wires and are just talking about the sheathing over the cable sets, you can get spiral wrap that can protect the inner wires. The bullet proof method is to use heat shrink, but that can be a PITA unless you're looking to show off.
