dead brick.... fuel problems i presume 200

i'm halfway through my crosscountry trip from florida to california and i'm in longmont, CO with a dead brick. i still have faith though. we can get through this.

i was driving 35 mph and all of sudden the car stalled. no weird noises. the death was sudden. the engine just stopped. I pulled over and tried to start and the car would not.
there is plenty of gas in the tank and plenty of juice in the battery. I have good compression and the plugs and wires are relatively new.

looking through the forums I found a fuel pump test where one would use a jumper wire from fuse 5 to 7 in order to force the fuel pumps "on." That was for an '84 240. since i have an '86 245, my fuses for the fuel pumps are 4 and 6. I tried the jumper wire. i got the little spark. but the car still did not start.

I've checked the coil, fuse, and wires around the engine compartment and everything looks kosher.

what do the results of this "force on" test mean?
