Today, both of my turn signal arrows started working in reverse (ie
on while the turn signals were off, but still blinked). Replugging
the dashboard electrical connections solved that problem. I wonder
if my overheating problem (which was only intermittent) was caused
by a poor ground to the dash causing the instrument voltage regulator
to get an incorrect ground reference and thus put out a higher
voltage than normal. Yes, the gauge did climb when going uphill,
but it also read a bit higher than normal at idle, and some temp.
rise while going uphill *is* normal until the thermostat has time
to react. I guess I'll see when I drive it tomorrow.
In other news, I got the broken exhaust pipe welded for $45. I'll
still need a new exhaust in a year or so according to my mechanic,
but the need isn't pressing now, at least. He also used an extended
hanger to suspend the middle of the exhaust because he claims that
the shape of the (Midas) exhaust is actually slightly incorrect, and
it wants to hang lower than stock, so putting on stock hangers would
likely overstrain the joint and cause it to crack again eventually.
