Throttle Body Spacer 200 1986

Greetings,

I was talking to a buddy today at work at he was saying how his car gets 35 mpg plus. It is not a volvo, but a 90 something s10 manual truck. He said that the main reason he gets that good of gas mileage is because he has a throttle body spacer. After he explained to me that the throttle body spacer is just a piece of metal that makes more of a gap between the throttle body and intake manifold, he went on to add that his cold air intake also makes a positive difference in gas mileage. I can see how cold air intake can help improve efficiency/gas mileage, but how would a throttle body spacer help any?? He told me to try one on my car, but i've never even heard of such a thing?

Anyone know what the throttle body spacer is and what it does to help gas mileage?

Just curious,

Smith
