78 245 Wiring Questions 200 1978

I'm currently trying to bring my '78 245 back to life after an electrical disaster killed my ignition module. The insulation on the wiring that runs just below the timing cover had been eaten off somehow or other, and was arcing. I put some electrical tape on things as a band aid and tried to start the car. It would not start, and after doing a bit of troubleshooting I found out that it was only sparking once.
I talked to my father and uncle (both mechanics) and they told me that it was probably the ignition module. There were no modules at the junkyard, and a new module cost as much as a MSD 6A, so I picked one of those and a Blaster 2 coil up.
Today I got to repairing the wiring harness and installing the MSD. I have a few questions.

1. There is a heavy, red wire which connects to the alternator. In the same bundle of wires there is a smaller red wire and a black wire as well. I can not see what they're supposed to be connected to. Any ideas?

2. I found out most of the info I needed for hooking up the MSD box from the instructions and from a post on Turbobricks. The one thing I do not know though is where to find a positive 12 volt switched power source. Most people recommended that I hook it into the ignition switch. There are fice wires hooked to the switch, a yellow one w/ a blue stripe, a red one, a blue one, a black one, and a red one wiht a white stripe. Which of these would work? If none of them work would the positive wire from the fuel pump be a good place to connect it?
Thanks in advance.
