Hey Foolks,
Me again. I want to thank the WALRUS and CHAKRY for input on my brake problem. Still havn't figured that one out and have to admit that it is probably over my head. I was a mekanik for years and never encountered this paticular problem and am looking for a good mechanic in this area. (NW MD), will try VCOA next. The good news is that there is another 1800 (ES) owner in this county. Met him at Carlisle, PA meet.
Okay, start out in 1st, go slowly and hear a thump. thump as I go along. Go to 2nd and the thump gets faster, but not louder, just constant, and sounds like I am gonna hurt something any second.Sounds like it's comming from behind me.
Back to the garage. Lift it up. check for sound while running in 1st-nothing, no thump. Check drive train mount-seems OK.( Previous owner included center u-joint rubber for drive shaft, so I checked that 1st.) Universal joints-seem OK. Checked rear end fluid- ok. Shut off. in neutral, shook and turned tires by hand. Nothing.
I'm not looking at tires out of balance nor warped rims. I'm hearing thump and more thumps at higher speed but not on the jackstands.
Since I have using (looking at) this site for years now for free, I promice to donate $25.00 to this site in the name of first person who provides the correct diagnosis.
I just today got confirmation from the Dept. of Motor Vehicles that the licence plate spelling out the word "MEDIATOR" is mine. Happy traveling- now I just nee to get on the road with this buggy
Peace, Carl
