Possible tailgate wiring change 200

I was noticing the way the wiring in the sliding door on my dad's windstar works. It has four retractable pins on the leading edge of the door. When the door closes these pins come in contact with matching plates on the door frame. Could this type of device be mounted on the tailgate of the 245? It seems like it would be a good way around the crappy hinge wire mess. What do you think?
