Repacking bearings. 140-160

Here is the manual page-
http://www.1800philes.com/docs/files/?chapter_id=36&file_id=1318

If you have assorted big sockets laying around they come in handy as drifts. If you are just repacking and not replacing bearings and races it is not too bad. Beware that this is a messy messy job that requires some cleanliness. Pay careful attention as you take things apart and have a clean work area.

I just used the good tub of wheel bearing grease from the auto parts store. I soak the races thoroughly in spirits and repack them with my fingers and a grease gun with a needle attachment (like you use for the ball joints) to fill the bearings. Don't worry about any special 'bearing packing' tools.

Pay close attention to the manual's instructions for tightening the wheel nut. This is one of those jobs that it pays to do yourself because you will be more anal about cleanliness and details than any shop would be. The worst part is tricking your spouse into manning the brake pedal when you rebleed...
