Loose Shifter Knob 200

Most folks post here to find out how to remove a stubborn shifter knob. I have the exact opposite problem. My shifter pops off when you hit a bump. The OD switch works just fine. I know I can glue the knob back in place, but if I ever need to replace the OD switch, I probably won't be able to remove it. Any suggestions how to resolve this?? A friend suggested carpet tape (adhesive on both sides). Thanks in advance for your thoughts.
