Or another way ...

Maybe in the 145 Express style by raising the roof, perhaps even way high like a VW Van that I see a lot of in Mexico?

Or how about a retractable roof in the Studebaker Lark Wagonaire style? Granted, it need not be retractable, but even just being removable could work. Steel tubing can be ran around the opening with a j-channel lip below for drainage. A removable bar can serve as reinforcement in the back. 'course the tailgate is still one to fiddle with ... perhaps make it side-opening?

It's not that a pickup can't be done ... it's just that it's been done many times already, and not quite as unique anymore IMHO.

-- Kane ... converted V70 that was on display at the 2003 iPd Garage sale - I think it was a 2000 model. Rear doors were fully welded shut and rear cabin panel came from a Ford Ranger. 2" tubing was used around the bed for to serve as both reinforcment and as a trim for all the exposed sheet metal edges.
