Rewiring 66 1800 1800

Finally getting time/frustrated enough to rewire my 66 1800.
Between several books none have a matching wiring diagram but it will be enough to make it work. One thing I have not been able to get good info on is the wire guage. Aside from the tach, are there any other things that may be affected by the wrong guage wire? My plan is 12 gauge on the headlights, alternator, starter, and o-drive and 16 guage on everything else.
Any words of advise from you learned brickboarders?
