On Saturday as I was diring the 1988 244 home, I heard what seemed to be an electrical sound that came from the left (driver's) side of the car (like positive and negative wires touching for a second). I had to have it towed the rest of the way home. It had been wrecked (spent the better part of the morning pulling the metal and trying to get the hood to close).
I thought the ECU had just gone out, or the fuel pump relay. I tested the coil. It does have the Volvo-Chrystler Ignition System but does have the Brown Distributor Cap. According to the Bentley Manual, testing the resistance between pegs #1 & #15 on the coil should produce no more than 1.3 ohms. Mine was at 1.5 ohms. I tested between peg #1 and the Center of the Coil and got an ohm reading of 0.00
I know the Coil is bad. Is it possible the Ignition Module is bad? What about the ECU? Any help would be appreciated before I replace the Coil and find something else to make it go bad.
P.S. After I got it home and had to pry the hood open, it seems the previous mechanic had just taken the headlight, turn signal, horn and AC Wires and just tossed them into the Engine Compartment. That's when I decided to test the Coil, since they were close to it.
If I replace the coil and the ECU or Ignition Module ARE indeed Bad, will they hurt the Coil?
