Coolant leak, '84 DL 200

A few weeks ago, I read a post from someone who found a very hard to find leak, but I cant find that post. I've been through the FAQ and it hasn't helped. The water pump seemed to have stains on it from the seal so I replaced it, but it still leaks at the same rate when driven, but no drips anywhere visible. (I'll save comments about the cockamaymee way to do this job for another post...)
Anyway, after driving hard on the freeway, I can barely smell a bit of coolant, but no steam or visible leaks. I can refill the tank and let the car sit, and no leaks. I have been all over it with a mirror when hot and idling, and nothing. If whoever found something similar on their brick, I'd be grateful for a forward from their post.
