warm engine, thermostat recallibration? 200 1990

Thanks for all the empathic thoughts on my gouged 1990 240 wagon and the name of the body work person---i'll get right on that...quel bummer, as they say.

Here's an unrelated question. My engine runs a little hot, especially in city driving. I usually end up hitting the heat to take some of the temp off the engine, which in the summer time is not much fun. I'm considering replacing the thermostat but I wonder, are there types that open up at a slightly lower temperature to start the cooling earlier in the process? Or is there a way to recallibrate an existing thermostat to do the same?

In any case it's about time to replace it one way or another but if I can find a way to fix the heat issue, it would be great.

As always, thanks for all the priceless information.
