Repacking bearings. 140-160

Mike IS a bit wordy, but very thorough. Only add comment to be very careful not to contaminate cleaned bearing and new grease with grit or dirt - if you do, you would probably have been better off not starting.

Agree w/ Mike about repack vs replace. Also, blue discolor on race or rollers is another sign of damage.

Getting the inside of the cage clean is the hardest part of a repack. If you can soak 'em overnight in gas or kerosene, it'll help loosen it. Blowing with compressed air works great, except crap flies everywhere, and don't spin the bearing with the air.

I'm sold on Red Line "CV-2" grease. At least be sure that grease is "disc brake rated" or recommended for CV joints. Note that grease for wheels and u-joints should be hi-speed, hi-temp rated. It's different service than chassis joints.
