Head Bolt Threads - Do they have to be Perfect? 900 1994

1994 945T 132k miles

In the process of doing the headgasket on the wife's wagon. Picked up some new head bolts from FCP Groton which came bundled all together in one plastic bag. From other posts that I have read I've learned that the thread quality is very important to getting accurate torque readings. Anyhow, I was a little surprised that the bolts didn't have a protective sheath on them.

Most of the bolts have some slight nicks in the threads, likely from being bundled together... Not too bad although there is one bolt that I have concerns about.

How good do the threads really have to be? I plan on making a trip to Home Depot to find a nut that will fit the threads so I can chase them and clean them up a bit.

Thanks,
Bean
